Centre Volunteers in Medicine is excited to announce that once again Centre region marathoners are running in the Boston Marathon on April 21st, the Pittsburgh Full & Half Marathon on May 4th and the Pocono Marathon on May 18th in support of CVIM's mission to serve and advocate for the medically underserved residents of Centre County. This event, sponsored by Mount Nittany Health System, is in it's 12th year. To date, it has raised $450,000.
Sue Paterno, Penn State Track and Field Olympian Greg Fredericks, and Penn State Women's Volleyball Coach Russ Rose are returning for the 2014 Marathoners for Medicine Team as the honorary women's, men's, and head coaches.
CVIM provides free medical and dental care to Centre County residents who lack insurance coverage. Many patients earn too much to qualify for Medicaid yet earn too little for the Affordable Care Act mandates to apply. CVIM offers additional services that include Medication Assistance and Case Management Service to aid our patients finding other forms of assistance to ease their burdens.
The funds raised through the Marathoners for Medicine event are critical to the existence of CVIM, as CVIM is not government funded and must raise 100% of our operational expenses through donations, grants and events.
