2012 Marathoners for Medicine
Centre Volunteers in Medicine is excited to announce that once again runners from the Centre region are running in the Boston Marathon on April 16th, Pittsburgh Marathon on May 6th and Pocono Marathon on May 20th in support of CVIM's mission to serve and advocate for the medically underserved residents of Centre County.  This event, sponsored by Mount Nittany Health System, is in it's 10th year, led by CVIM Board Member, John Domico.  To date, it has raised more than $300,000.  This year, we will also be running in honor and in memory of the person who has served as our honorary head coach from the beginning, Joe Paterno.

In 2003, Joe and Sue Paterno along with PSU Track and Field Olympian Greg Fredericks were asked to help lead the team as honorary coaches.  Sue leading the women, Greg leading the men, and Joe, of course, as the team's honorary head coach.  Joe said various times that he didn't know anything about running a marathon, but year after year, Joe was there, motivating and inspiring the athletes.

Sue Paterno and Greg Fredericks are returning for the 2012 Marathoners for Medicine Team as the honorary women's and men's coaches.  We are pleased to announce that Penn State Women's Volleyball Coach, Russ Rose, is joining the Marathon effort as our 2012 honorary head coach!

CVIM provides free medial and dental care to Centre County residents who are without insurance coverage.  Many CVIM patients earn too much to qualify for Medicaid yet earn too little afford the high cost of coverage either independently or through their employer.  Additional services offered by CVIM include Medication Assistance and Case Management Service to aid our patients in navigating and securing other forms of assistance to ease their burdens, if available.  The funds raised through the Marathoners for Medicine event are critical to the existence of CVIM, as CVIM is not government funded and must raise 100% of our operational expenses through donations, grants and events.
