This spring, I will join a group of local runners participating in various marathons as a means of raising money and awareness for Centre Volunteers in Medicine.  Marathoners in Medicine has grown from a single person running the Boston Marathon and collecting money in support of his run, to a group of more than 35 runners who run several different marathons in support of CVIM.

In 2003, Joe and Sue Paterno along with PSU Track and Field Olympian Greg Fredericks were asked to help lead the team as honorary coaches.  Joe said various times that he didn't know anything about running a marathon, but year after year, Joe was there, motivating and inspiring the athletes.

Two years ago Penn State Women's Volleyball Coach, Russ Rose, joined the Marathon effort as our honorary head coach! We are pleased to announce that Russ Rose will return as honorary head coach for the 2014 Marathoners for Medicine Team and Sue Paterno and Greg Fredericks are returning as the honorary women's and men's coaches.

Please help me raise funds and awareness for CVIM.


CVIM is a free clinic providing medical and dental care, medication assistance and case management services to the thousands in Centre County without healthcare coverage.  Every day, CVIM cares for people with any number of treatable illnesses and conditions, such as:  high blood pressure, diabetes, extreme dental decay, and mental health issues.


 
Marty's Story

I am proud once again to be a part of the CVIM Marathoners for Medicine team as 2014 marks my 11th year in supporting CVIM's mission of providing much needed medical and dental services to local residents, friends and neighbors in need.   Please support me as I run the Boston Marathon on April 21 and the Pittsburgh Marathon on May 4.  Consider donating $26.20 -- one dollar for every mile of the marathon -- but I can assure you that any contribution is valued and used judiciously.
