Dan Coughlin's Story
Hi Everyone!
This year I’m going to run the Boston Marathon. My dad was born in South Boston, and he tells stories of bartering animal pelts to get into Red Sox games as a kid during the 19th century :-). More seriously, we have lots of family up there so Boston has always held a special place for me, I’ve been traveling to New England for so long, that I remember when the Patriots weren’t any good (I swear, there was a time!), and I’m very excited to be running in there.
As I did last year, I’m raising money for Centre Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) <http://www.cvim.net>. Marathoners for Medicine, a group from the running club I’m in, raise money for CVIM when they run marathons or 1/2 marathons (to be clear, none of the donation money goes to any of the race fees or travel, it all goes to CVIM—we use the run as a good excuse to raise money).
CVIM is run entirely by volunteers, and provides health care to people in Centre County, PA who can’t afford or are not provided health insurance by their workplace. Over the past 16 years, runners from NVRC have raised over $600,000 for CVIM.
I understand many folks are actively involved in other charities or cannot extend themselves any further so please don’t feel obligated. If you are able to donate a bit, I am very appreciative.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
Much love,
Danny/Dan/DC/Coug
