I recently decided to run yet another marathon – the Buffalo Marathon over Memorial Day Weekend.
Since suffering for a cause probably gets me some time off of purgatory, I volunteered to run on the Nittany Valley Running Club’s Marathoners for Medicine fundraising team. For those unaware, Marathoners for Medicine was started by John Domico in 2002 to raise funds for Centre Volunteers in Medicine, a local clinic that provides free primary care and dental care to the 15% and 33% of Centre County residents without health or dental insurance. Through fundraising efforts and support from Mt. Nittany Medical Center, Centre Gives, and others, Centre Volunteers in Medicine has been able to expand their operations and begin free mental health counseling. I had a chance to tour their facilities, and they have an amazing setup that provides excellent care to working folks and families struggling to make ends meet.
Since Marathoners for Medicine started, they’ve fundraised over $645,000 to provide healthcare for working class families, and I’m very happy to help them push that number a little higher. Please give whatever you can to help support healthcare access in Centre County!
